Nancy VanDerBas

President
Nancy VanDerBas is a Music Teacher for the Pennsbury School District.  She is currently teaching Music Education and Chorus at Eleanor Roosevelt Elementary School.  Mrs. VanDerBas is also the Director of the Children’s Musical Theatre program and is the Teacher Liaison for the Pennsbury Partners Program and BCPAC.Mrs. VanDerBas received her BS in Music Education at West Chester University, her MA degree and Supervisory certification from The College of New Jersey, and has continued her studies at various other universities.  Nancy has a passion for Music and bringing “Live Arts” to children and the community. She is married and the Mother of two daughters, both interested in the Arts. Nancy enjoys travel, and learning about the culture and history of all people.


Mary Borkovitz
Executive Director
Bucks County Performing
Arts Center
Mary Borkovitz is a 1954 graduate of New York University with a B.S. in Music Education.  She has taught instrumental music in the Westbury Public School District on Long Island and the Greenburgh Public School District in Westchester New York.  In 1970, due to a career move for her husband Mary moved to Yardley Pennsylvania and retired from teaching to raise a family.

During the 70’s Mary volunteered in several capacities; serving on the Park and Recreation Board of Lower Makefield Township, becoming a Girl Scout leader for the local Girl Scout Troup and teaching music in the local Nursery School.  Then in 1978, when a Community Room was built on to the local Township Building, Mary started a concert series by founding the Lower Makefield Society for the Performing Arts.  While developing this program as a volunteer, she worked as an Administrative Assistant in the Psychology Department of Trenton State College, Mobil Oil Corporation and in the Provost’s Office of Princeton University.

Now celebrating its 33rd anniversary season, the Lower Makefield Society for the Performing Arts has become the Bucks County Performing Arts Center, to better represent the expansion of its programming into all of Bucks County.  Mary continues to be its Executive Director.


Pete Borkovitz
Sr. Vice President, Marketing

Pete Borkovitz, a former President of BCPAC, is a 1953 graduate of UCLA (BA), and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict as a 1st Lieutenant. He is currently in his forty-fifth year in the computer software industry. He spent his business career as a computer industry executive and sales executive, and is known as a pioneer in the sale of computer software products.

He brings 55 years of Managerial experience to BCPAC.  In addition, his love of music has become the source of great joy in his life..

 



Shirley Springsteen
Administrative Assistant/Secretary
Shirley Springsteen is a graduate of Pennsbury High School.  After raising a family, she  worked at Educational Testing Services (ETS) and retired after eighteen years service. She is highly experienced in office management with excellent organizational skills. Over the years, she has taken several art classes at Bucks County Community College.  She enjoys hiking, painting the beauty of nature, and visiting family and her four wonderful grandchildren.   She lived in Reno, Nevada for 12 years and returned to Pennsylvania two years ago. 





Mark Abrams, MCW
Webmaster

Mark L. Abrams, MCW is a Senior Webmaster/Architect and the founder of Abrams 8-10, LLC, a visual communications company specializing in web and graphic design. A resident of Delaware County, he has created a new visual identity for Bucks County Performing Arts Center. Working in partnership with fellow Board member Robin Brown, whom he met while both held senior positions at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, BCPAC’s new identity has been applied to all of its print and web, marketing and performance materials. Mark is the Senior Global Webmaster for IBM as well as the host for The Stars Chamber Radio Network. he is an An Adjunct Professor for several technology programs in the tri-state area.

Robin Brown
Creative Director

Robin Brown is a visual communications specialist who launched her business, Design 10-17, Inc., a graphic and web design firm, in 2005. A resident of Chester County, she has created a new visual identity for Bucks County Performing Arts Center. Working in partnership with fellow Board member Mark Abrams, whom she met while both held senior positions at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, BCPAC’s new identity has been applied to all of its print and web, marketing and performance materials. An Adjunct Professor at the Pennsylvania College of Art & Design, Robin graduated from Pratt Institute with a BFA degree in Communications Design. The mother of an adopted daughter, her hobbies include reading, singing, and making jewelry.

Greg Caiola,
LMT Liaison
Greg Caiola is an elected Lower Makefield Township Supervisor and is the liaison to the BCPAC. He is employed by Young Scholars' Institute, a non-profit, urban learning center in Trenton, NJ, where he serves as the director of development and is responsible for securing funding for educational, cultural and recreational enrichment programs for at-risk youth.Greg has an MA in Media Administration from Temple University and a BA in Speech Communication from The College of New Jersey. He is married and has a son at Wilkes University and another at Pennsbury High School. His love for all types of music drew him to the BCPAC where he has been a board member for two years.

Susanne Curran

Susanne Curran a 28 year resident of Yardley and Lower Makefield. Sue is a music lover of everything from Mozart to big band jazz to Soulive.  She is an active community volunteer in many organizations in addition to BCPAC and has supported the Makefield Women's Association, Yardley Business Association, Friends of Lake Afton, Lower Makefield Historic Commission, Girl Scouts, Bucks County Open Space Task Force and Lower Makefield Community Pride Day. Sue is also a proponent of music education and is delighted that her daughters are both active participants in the Pennsbury High School music program in the Symphonic Winds band, Marching Band and the Pennsbury Concert Jazz Band and Jazz Lab Band. She is self-employed with Curran Realty Advisors-Appraisers Inc., a commercial real estate appraisal firm with offices in Yardley and Princeton, NJ.

Kevin J. McHugh, Ed.D
Liaison, Pennsbury School District
Kevin J. McHugh, Ed.D. is the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction for the Pennsbury School District and was previously principal of Pennwood Middle School where he was a frequent partner with BCPAC and proponent of the “Live Arts” initiative.  Dr. McHugh was “National Principal of the Year 2002” after being named “Pennsylvania Principal of the Year” in 2001. He holds a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Lehigh University, and Master and Bachelor degrees in Music Education from Temple University.  Prior to his administrative career, Dr. McHugh was a High School Band Director for 15 years.  He has joined the Bucks County Performing Arts Center Executive Board as Liaison to the Pennsbury School District.

Martin Stepper
Martin Stepper received full scholarship degrees in Music Theory and Composition from Syracuse University (B.Mus.) and the Curtis Institute of Music(M.M.). He has been on the music faculties of Hunter College, William Paterson University, and the Elizabeth Morrow School and currently teaches theory, composition, and piano in the Yardley area.  He recently founded the Yardley-Makefield Chamber Music Society in addition to his role on the board of the Bucks County Performing Arts Center and development work at Curtis.  Upon retiring from 27 years in the computer information management field, he has returned to music wholeheartedly as a composer, chamber musician and professional accompanist.  He was recently named finalist in the 2008 National Association of Teachers of Singing Composition Award Competition.
